Brief summary: This story is really creepy, and explores something that the show does not - surely not all the inhabitants of the Pegasus Galaxy are humanoid. This story, written for the 'First Contact' challenge on sga_flashfic, has aliens that really are, and a first contact that doesn't go as planned. Beautiful science fiction. To say any more would spoil the story.
Major John Sheppard woke with a start and reached for a water canteen that was still in the boat. He was thirsty, like he hadn't been since the disaster of a mission in Afghanistan that had left him ferrying scientists around Antarctica. A preliminary assessment of his surroundings suggested that he was not in the desert though, but somewhere cold and damp, probably underground. He'd lost his weapon, all his weapons on checking, his vest, his pants and his team. He didn't know where he was, or how he'd got there, but he was uninjured. He had a headache but it felt more like dehydration than concussion and he was hungry.
He glanced at his watch, and recalled doing so earlier, just after they'd stepped through the gate. They'd all been present then, he remembered joking with Ford about amphibious marines, and then...then something had happened, something he couldn't remember.
